The Svea Court of Appeal confirmed the sentence passed to Subhi Othman by Nyköping district court in March.

62-year-old Othman had admitted to killing his daughter in November 2010.

Othman stabbed his daughter on the stairs of the family home in Katrineholm after which he gave himself up to the police.

In interviews he explained that he had killed her as he considered her lifestyle to be "indecent" and that he was faced with no other alternative in order to protect the family honour.

When police arrived on the scene, they found his daughter lying in the foetal position at the bottom of the stairs. She had been stabbed 53 times.

According to a report in the Aftonbladet daily, Othman began hating his daughter after her husband had filed for divorce. Behind the divorce petition was a rumour of infidelity.

The 21-year-old woman and her three-year-old daughter had moved from Gothenburg to Katrineholm, in central Sweden, to live with her parents following the divorce.

Story continues below…

The district court found that the murder had been premeditated and especially brutal.

The man will be extradited from Sweden as soon as he has served his sentence.

This is good. hard time (by swedish standards) and then extradited. perfect. for once a punishment that, by swedish, standards, fits the crime! 18 years in prison here is the equivalent of somewhere around 250 thousand years in the US or Iran and countries like that.

They should also work him over with the choke pear so he can feel the pain his poor daughter felt while he inserted repeatedly the blade into her body.

The now "honorable" family is completely ruined...and everything because of rumors.
17:42 May 23, 2011 by calebian22
Honor, what a joke.

Nothing to do with honour . murdering scum who should be deported
18:04 May 23, 2011 by Dave N
There is nothing honourable about Islam. Read the Muslim handbook "Reliance of the Traveller" and you will find that parents are allowed to kill children who dare to step out of line. So are the child's grand-parents, come to that.

Read it, read the Koran, read the Hadith - and wake up to the horrific ideology that they like to pretend is a Religion of Peace.

Hey, let's build another mosque! Yeah, that's the ticket.

Funny. The commentators whose remarks I would like to read are absent. Where are you iraniboy, methven and thruthworthy? What's your spin on this, if I may be so bold as to ask? A social dem or an MP-er would do fine too. How do you people reconcile this?
19:20 May 23, 2011 by wenddiver
@Syffel- God you are totally right on that one. What happened to the members of the Jihadi News Network. I was counting on my daily dose of ignorance and justification of Jihad. Maybe they have been deported.

It is just too bad that Swedish taxpayers actually have to fork over the money to feed, clothe, and house this scumbag in the Swedish prison system for the next 18 years. And any prescription medication he might need during that time. If I was a Swedish taxpayer I might want to see the guy summarily executed or deported instead.
20:19 May 23, 2011 by here for the summer
@Boliche why do you say this is a rumor . Everything I read about the case seems rock solid evidence. I hope you are not defended this barbaric act ?
20:49 May 23, 2011 by abraham lezama
What kind of honour has some killer? leave out the mosque, dont permit the spread of muslims religion, they are gonna take the country if you allow them.

Poor woman, murdered for ignorance, for stupidity.
21:08 May 23, 2011 by calebian22
here for the summer,

I read that wrong too at first, though the quotes around the honorable saved me from responding. Broliche is referring to the infidelity rumors that drove the father to defend the family honor, not the facts of the case. ( I think)

Ohhhhhh YEAH !!! : )

It's been a long time coming for these types of insurgents living among us Scandinavians. I wonder if this dude actually survives his 18 year club med prison sentence, as I would also imagine he will also get out once a year.

Finally, Sweden has awoken to these terrorists and will take appropriate action.

I'd rather see my taxes going to other positive things for this wonderful country, but having a choice of these mussies either running around thinking they can do anything they want, or sitting in a prison cell waiting to be deported, I'll gladly accept paying for their prison stay and stedfast exit from Sverige : )

Now things here will only get better!

This animal will live in a cage where he belongs.
00:35 May 24, 2011 by rumcajs
Wait wait.... be EXTRADITED and DEPORTED is not the same thing.

You get EXTRADITED when another country wants you to spend some time in jail ( in that other country ), so they send you there and after you serve that time you can come back ( not the case of this 62 y/o nuts ). You can even be extradited from your own country by the way... like the drug lords sent from Colombia to U.S.

And you get DEPORTED when you live in a country that is not yours and they don't want you there any more so they send you back to your country in which you might live free or not, but will be a hard one to come back.

So this guy will be what?

My heart goes out to the three-year-old. Stabbing a daughter 53 times because she got divorced "to protect the family honor..." heck no.

Justice seems to be finally being done in Sweden.

I hope this send a message to people of similar religious views that honor killings are not going to be condoned in Sweden and Europe.
02:02 May 24, 2011 by here for the summer

I reread the story and saw that. But right thinking doesn't allow that rumor to be a factor. If his step daughter was having an affair what does that have to do with murder or honor ? It's not a justification nor an accepted reaction .
03:28 May 24, 2011 by ajs42548
It's almost funny. In Islamic culture, murdering a daughter RESTORES honor to the family (so they say). In the west, murdering someone brings DISHONOR to the family.
06:38 May 24, 2011 by expatjourno
@Dave N: Read the Bible. It allows parents to kill their children for cursing them. And the people who murdered Edward Tiller claimed to be Christians. The problem isn't the religion. It's religious fundamentalism. The parents recently arrested in the U.S. for starving to death one baby and keeping their daughter in a cage? What religion are they? The people who kidnapped and raped Elizabeth Smart? What religion are they?
08:42 May 24, 2011 by this_aint_sparta
And there was a guy in Austria who for 20 years kept his daughter,... heck i dont wanna even talk about it, may be that was worst than stabbing 53 times and he was not a muslim. He was a chiristian so the conclusion, ALL CHIRISTIAN FATHERS CAN KEEP THEIR DAUGHTERS IN CELLERS FOR 20 YEARS AND FATHER 4 KIDS FROM THEM :-))))))

Trust me half of the people here has the same IQ as me :-)))

I dont have anything to do with religion but come on people, you are allowed to take out your hatred but take it out with some sense and logic.
12:35 May 24, 2011 by Scambaiter
LOL!...Honour killings have nothing to do with Islam, they are purely cultural and exist in all religions and many unenlightened cultures...as expatjourno points out, honour killings are even propagated in the bible.

God, you hypocritical bigots disgust me.

This individual fully deserves his sentence, of course.

Meanwhile, Sven Svenne in his stuga can go back to getting ratfaced on moonshine and beating up his wife and kids. Paedophilia and homophobia didn't exist of course, back in the good old days before immigration...not. Nor murder, bank robbery, car theft, drug crimes, etc etc. Each and every Swede that has ever been born is a law-abiding citizen who never drinks and drives or fiddles his taxes.

So let's have a look at the top ten list of notorious mass murderers, rapists and serial killers in Sweden and see how many muslims there are.

Mattias Flink - worse mass murderer in Swedish history

John Ausonius - the original laserman

Helge Fossmö - psycho priest

Tomas Quick - serial killer

Anders Eklund - serial killer

Jackie Arklöv - Balkan mercenary and police killer (adopted to Sweden as a 3-year-old)

Niklas Lindgren - Hagamannen, second worse serial rapist in Swedish history

Hampus Hellekant - neo-Nazi murderer

Peter Mangs - the Malmö laserman

Niklas Eliasson - the worst mass rapist in Swedish history

Surprise, surprise, not a single Muslim among them!
14:14 May 24, 2011 by Syftfel
@scambaiter: And how does this link up with the honor killings described in the above story?
16:14 May 24, 2011 by this_aint_sparta
@ Syftfel, That crimes and brutal crimes are not related to any religion or race or breed or whatever, its individual and their background.
16:22 May 24, 2011 by star10
@Dave N

Don't pour out your ignorance. There is no such honor in Islam. Humblness, not honorableness, is the value promoted by Islam. Honor killing is a cultural matter that existed for thousdans of years (before Islam). You need to have the abc of Islam before talking trash.
17:06 May 24, 2011 by Dave N
Star10 - Don't lie. Your taquiyya doesn't work on people who have seen it written down in black and white. Read the Reliance of the Traveller - it is the ABC of Islam. It's the handbook of Islamic jurisprudence - and it OKs parents killing children. I'll dig out the exact quote, if you want me to - but it would be better if you read the damn thing yourself as you appear to be ignorant of your own religion.

BTW - Where do you stand on the correct punishment for Muslims who decide Islam's just a fairy tale ( complete with djinns!) and convert to Christianity or become atheists? Should they be killed, stoned or flogged? Mohammad, according to your Hadith, said they should be killed. How about you?
20:04 May 24, 2011 by Scambaiter
Syftfel...this thread - as always - is full of ignorant bigots spouting hatred, most of whom don't even live in Sweden.

As you're seemingly incapable of understanding plain English and only see what you want to see, my points are twofold..

1. as Sparta rightly points out...Honour killings are unrelated to religion, other than coincidentally, they are purely cultural and exist in many unenlightened cultures.

2. The worst and vilest criminals and psychopaths in Sweden, particularly in the last 20 years and during the "mass immigration" period have been - you've guessed it - not Muslim at all, but Swedish.

Pleas pay attention in class.
08:45 May 25, 2011 by skatty
Actually, it very much depends how a society classify a crime.

As an example, if a father kills her daughter for the same reason mentioned in the article, then it is considered a crime in many developing countries and has a kind of punishment; as far as I know, mostly have to leave their home and can't continue their life like before the crime.

However, the same crime in Sweden gets a particular calcification to distinct between immigrants and native Swedes; mostly to marginalize immigrants. Another example of these kinds is raping; sometimes when I read Swedish Medias, it seems that raping is a phenomenon invented by immigrants and developed by immigrants (especially from developing countries) and nothing Swedish, not any Swede has ever raped anybody anywhere!

I mean if a society wants to marginalize a group of people, there are many ways to reach the aim.

We can see how "honorable" Muslims in action murdering each other every day around the world over nonsense...

Killers actually make big news here because it's rare.

In the Muslim world cold blooded killings are the norm but I guess when it's in the name of Allah it's honorable. Open a newspaper and your eyes.
12:23 May 25, 2011 by infidel2012

Racism is not at play here, were all talking about a religion of peace that is really a religion of terror.

By your comments you come off as an Insurgent Terrorist sympathizer.

But if that's not the case, ask yourself, when was the last time you invited muslims over for fika or a barbecue?

Never? I didn't think so.

Now, STFU : )

Really sucks that TL lets scambaiter post whatever he wants in support of terrorists but when I write counterpoints and give statistical evidence to support them, my comments get deleted. Shows which side TL is on and diminishes their credibility.

Just 18 years for stabbing his own daughter 53 times to death!! I know Sweden has no death sentence. But this sentence which will probably set him free in 8-9 years is a joke. He should have been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. Does Sweden have such a sentence?
17:30 June 18, 2011 by sass31
18-years is still a joke my friends. He should have received life in prison with no parole. He will be released when he is 80. Please tell me this sentence of 18-years has no possibility of parole?
