“I think it's just awful; they can't do this to people,” Amanda Kazemi told the Götegborgs-Posten (GP) newspaper following the incident.

“Children and people with illnesses also eat at McDonald's. What would happen if they one of them got this inside of them.”

Barn och sjuka äter också på McDonalds. Vad händer om någon av dem får i sig det här,

Kazemi purchased the burger on Tuesday at a McDonald's located in the Nordstan shopping centre and was just about to dig into when she noticed the maggot.

When she brought the burger back to complain, employees at the McDonald's reacted in horror.

“They said, 'Yuck!',” according to Kazemi, who subsequently refused their offer of a new burger in exchange for the one harbouring the unwanted guest.

Employees at the McDonald's in question refused to comment on the incident, however company spokesperson Frida Berg called the incident “regrettable”.

“I can understand why the woman is upset, things like this absolutely can't happen,” Berg told GP.

“This is the first time I've ever heard of something like this happening.”

Story continues below…

Berg emphasized that McDonald's has “high demands” for its suppliers, adding that she found no fault with how restaurant employees' treated Kazemi following the discovery of the maggot on her burger.

She added, however, that the employees' failure to keep the contaminated burger will make it difficult to figure out how the maggot got there in the first place.

Eating the maggot is probably healthier than eating the hamburger. :)

People eat bugs all the time in their sleep. So what??? Maggots are eaten in many parts of the world. Just eat it!!

Although not a nutritionally sound restaurant at least their freshness cannot be doubted :-)

Probably a worm larvae, not maggot seeing as how it was in vegetables.

I never get free extra toppings :(

Eating bugs in your sleep is a myth and rumour. Never been proven to be factual.
11:36 December 22, 2011 by mamegoma

You can't really deny it is true though? I mean, I am pretty sure people have eaten bugs in their sleep and also not in their sleep. I see so many people who don't wash lettuce when they purchase from the grocery store. I worked in a café here in Sweden and the employees didn't wash the lettuce but I was the only one doing so, and I was told I shouldn't wash it since it wasted time and it made the bread soggy. I told them they were full of it and some days later a woman complained of a tiny bug and sand in her lettuce in a sandwich. All the other lettuce had these tiny bugs and sand. For the small amount of time I was in that café (praktik for 3 months) about 5 people complained when I was there, and none of the employees seemed to get a clue.

To the best of my knowledge maggots only eat decomposing meat... that said, either the meat was old or it wasn't a maggot... more likely just moth larvae or something. In any case, probably healthier than the burger anyway.

- Excuse me waiter, but there's a worm in my salad!

- Please, not so loud. If people hear you they will probably all have one.

Maggot! Wait until you bite down on a bone chip! That is even more prevalent than bugs and could break a filling or tooth enamel.

thats what you get for eating green stuff

They are suppose to replace the hamburger for free and it is sad they didn't or offer a refund of her money. If that happened here in the States there would be a lawsuit involved unfortunately. So gross that happened.
21:13 December 22, 2011 by skogsbo
just pick it out and eat the burger, it proves there were no pesticides on the salad :)
10:17 December 23, 2011 by Da Goat
if it was a maggot it would have died eating the burger , probably was glad to escape !

probably a caterpillar on the salad, extra protein snack! just flick it to the nearest bird to eat! and continue eating, the bird will be thankful at least!

Since it was "crawling," it obviously wasn't from the meat as it would have been rendered inert when it was cooked. Most likely it was just some kind of lettuce bug larvae. Nevertheless, lettuce and all fresh produce that will be eaten raw should be washed at some point. I once read a memoir by a very old country doctor who said that if we ever saw the bacteria crawling around on freshly picked lettuce under a microscope, like he had in his med school days, we'd all insist that a butane blow-torch be used on it before eating.

Anyone who eats junk food or patronizes junk food outlets, and the United States exports them by the dozens, as well as tainted beef, should reexamine their commitment to eating a healthy diet.

"Eating the maggot is probably healthier than eating the hamburger, " and one other comment that states the same, are the two best comments on this thread.

I have had several good laughs over both, and that is good for the digestion!

We had a similar story/situation here in New Zealand. A lady found a maggot in her Big Mac. They traced it back to the Mac sauce. The gun they use to dispense it had not been cleaned and it was summer time, about 100 degrees in the kitchen and, well, you get the idea. Quite disgusting but it happens.

This is not that big of a deal ~ if you expect perfection in food then you are looking at genetically modified organisms, and then you have other far-reaching problems to consider. I think the real problem here is that Swedes seem to love the Macdonalds. Macdonalds is terrible for you! As an american I have seen what the fast food epidemic looks like: childhood obesity, heart disease and rampant diabetes. They make the food to be addictive. Sure they have the Mcbean here, but who actually orders that? In addition the food at macdonalds makes you feel bad. Why, Sweden? That's one of our worst exports!
