One man is dead and another seriously injured after an argument in a homeless shelter in Stockholm turned into a knife fight late on Tuesday night.

The argument began in an apartment in a homeless shelter in Vällingby, western Stockholm, late on Tuesday night. Staff at the shelter called the police when the men's behavior got out of hand.

“The men got into an argument with one another in the apartment, and we were alerted at midnight,” said Patrik Eriksson of the Stockholm police to TT news agency.

However, by the time the police arrived, the quarrel had taken a serious turn for the worse and had become a knife-fight. It is unclear whether both men were armed with knives, or if just one weapon was used, however both men were stabbed.

One of the men died early on Wednesday morning from the injuries he sustained in the fight.

The other man, who was seriously injured in the altercation, is now suspected of murder, according to TT news agency.

The apartment has been cordoned off by police, and several police patrols have commenced an investigation of the crime scene.
