A string of downpours in the last few days put many roads in the region under water, but the situation improved slightly overnight, the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) said.
“There are some places where it has got better but there are also some places where it has got worse. We’ll see how it goes during the day,” said Trafikverket’s regional road maintenance chief, Lars Svensson.
“It’s not raining as much today and hopefully it will dissipate a bit. Then we’ll have to keep an eye on it over the weekend,” he added.
Northwestern Götaland was hardest hit by the rain. A weather station in Kroppefjäll-Granan has registered 80 millimetres of rain since Wednesday night.
In more bad news for motorists, more rain is expected to draw in from the west on Saturday afternoon.
