Woman dies as hospital ignores SOS calls
A woman in southern Sweden has died after an ambulance ignored multiple emergency calls from her husband.
The husband called Sweden's emergency number when his elderly wife needed help. But emergency staff decided against sending an ambulance, despite two separate requests. The man called a third time to inform the medical staff that his wife had died. Officials at Lund Hospital have since apologized. "Our staff broke the rules. This is all terribly unfortunate," hospital spokeswoman Ewa Danielsson told the Sydsvenskan newspaper. The woman had previously proved troublesome for medical teams when she angrily refused assistance in using her bathroom during a house call, reported the paper. The hospital's actions have been reported to Sweden's Health and Social Care Inspectorate.
