March 11: Lecture on American special education law and application (Stockholm)
A Very Different Model from the Swedish System
Lawrence Siegel is a lawyer and Fulbright scholar with expertise in the American Individuals with Disabilities Education Act with focus on special educational and the rights of children with disabilities and their families. He has been instrumental in changing the federal policy and state law in support of children's right to individual education plans and an "appropriate" education. He works in California as a lawyer and teaches special education law at Hastings College.
In his talk on March 11 between 15.30-17.00 "American Special Education Law and Application; A very different model from the Swedish System" he will present strengths and weaknesses in the American Act and also his impressions of the Swedish Act. The last part of the presentation 16.30-17.00 will be an open discussion with the audience concerning "what works and what can we learn from each other?".
