Liberals set to present new leader candidate
The Liberal party is set to put forward its new leadership candidate at 9.30am on Thursday, with Swedish media reporting that it will be the current party secretary, Simona Mohamsson.
Mohamsson, aged 30, has been party secretary since the spring and has a background in the party's youth wing LUF and in municipal politics in Gothenburg.
Other names which were in the running include schools minister Lotta Edholm, climate and environment minister Romina Pourmokhtari, equality and working life minister Nina Larsson, MEP Karin Karlsbro and former integration minister Erik Ullenhag. Many of those names have reportedly turned down the role.
Once the party's election committee has put forward its candidate, members will vote at an EGM on June 24th.

Four out of ten Swedes feel discouraged about the climate
A new study has shown that more and more Swedes feel negative about how the climate is developing, with as many as 41 percent of respondents answering that they felt "discouraged". That's more than double the figure for 2019, where just 18 percent gave the same answer.
The survey said that this can be interpreted as an increase in "climate fatigue" among Swedes.
Three out of four Swedes ‒ 75 percent ‒ believe that there are major climate problems today, which is a decrease of 5 percent since 2020. At the same time, seven in ten Swedes said that they believe that they have an individual responsibility to actively contribute towards the green transition and consume and act more sustainably, with eight out of ten saying they had changed their lifestyles as a direct result of laws linked to sustainability.
Swedish vocabulary: klimattrötthet ‒ climate fatigue
Swedish central bank cuts key interest rate to 2 percent
Sweden's central bank on Wednesday cut its key interest rate for the first time since February in an effort to boost a weak economy, as it cited risks linked to trade tensions and the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
The bank cut its key rate by a quarter point to two percent and said another cut this year was possible.
"The economic recovery that began last year has lost momentum, and inflation is expected to be somewhat lower than in the previous forecast," the Riksbank said in a statement.
The country's economy contracted by 0.2 percent in the first quarter of the year, dragged down in part by a slowdown in household consumption. Swedish inflation fell to 0.2 percent year-on-year in May, according to Statistics Sweden.
The inflation measure used by the Riksbank to guide monetary policy, CPIF, which is adjusted for interest rates, came in at 2.3 percent – close to the central bank's two-percent target. (AFP)beck

Öresund Bridge between Denmark and Sweden has 'most expensive toll in world'
A review by a Swedish newspaper has concluded that the Öresund Bridge connecting Denmark to Sweden is the world’s priciest crossing to drive over.
The Öresund Bridge is this year marking the 25th anniversary of its opening, but has been given a title it might not want to include in the celebrations.
Swedish newspaper Sydsvenskan has concluded that the 16-kilometre tunnel and bridge connection between Amager in Denmark and Skåne in Sweden has the most expensive bridge toll in the world.
The current price for a single journey across the bridge in a private car is 510 Danish kroner or 750 Swedish kronor, making it the most expensive bridge by some distance according to Sydsvenskan.
The twin bridges between Kobe and Naruto in Japan are the world’s second-most expensive to cross, with the Confederation Bridge in Canada in third place.
