Dear ND Swede, the "Academic Experts" I'm sure that a group of academics who are against the concept of a Swedish language test, and who work for university that is against the test - are really jumping on this with enthusiasm... But if they were authorities, as you suggest, then they should be able to produce the test quickly. That is - If they know so much. It's a one week task. OK, academics are involved...Lets give them three months. MAX.
Who cares?
What does this mean for the rules on obtaining citizenship? Will the change from 5 years to 8 years be delayed by 3 years while they make the test? Or will people eligible for citizenship (with new or old rules) have wait in limbo for 3 years for a new test?

Dear Jack, The Swedish government has appointed Swedish academic experts to sort this out, and this is totally reasonable. You and your "Swedish friends" are welcome to share your credentials showing how you compare in terms of language knowledge and experience in designing language tests. Alternatively, you are welcome to move to Canada.

A reasonable test could be developed over a few weeks. Maybe a month or two in the worst case. The justifications for the three-year time-frame verge on the ridiculous. It seems the Universities are stalling while hoping for a change in government. The tests could be developed quickly by a consultant. I'd be happy to write the tests, along with a few of my Swedish friends. It would be 'good enough' - and would assess basic Swedish language skills. Happy to help any way I can. Jack
