Severe weather warning issued for Sweden's west coast
The snowy start to the year is continuing in Sweden, with state weather forecaster SMHI sharpening its weather warning for parts of Sweden's west coast from yellow to orange, meaning the weather will have "serious consequences for society" and represents "a danger to the public".
SMHI is warning of extremely heavy snowfall on Wednesday morning for large parts of Västra Götaland, the county around Gothenburg, in the north of Halland, and further snowfall in parts of Värmland and Dalarna.
A yellow warning remains in place for a swathe of Sweden to the north and east of Gothenburg.

Property market heating up
Sweden's property market is heating up according to the Property Temperature indicator put together by the state-owned mortgage provider SBAB and the property website Booli, but it is still rated as "cold".
The indicator combines six different metrics, including the number of properties on the market, the time they take to sell, the number of bidders, the size of the premium to the asking price, the number of adverts republished and the number of ads where the offer price is lowered.
"Our indicator...shows that the property market's temperature in Sweden as a whole is continuing to rise, but it's not going that fast," Robert Boije, SBAB's chief economist, wrote in a press statement. "At the current rate, the temperature won't count as normal until the end of the year."
The temperature is already rated as normal for apartments in central Stockholm and Gothenburg, and is warmer overall for detached houses than it is for apartments. The market is warmest for detached houses in Skåne, followed by the Stockholm region.
