Thanks for reporting this. I am one of those parents whose child was given deportation orders. I’m a skilled worker paying high taxes. We did not want to jeopardise our child’s future and sent him abroad for studies. Unlikely he will return to Sweden and why should he? I’m also a hiring manager in Sweden and make it very clear to foreign talent that Sweden is not the place for them if they have grown up kids. Unfortunately, Sweden will lose the next gen of skilled workers due to xenophobic rules like these. I personally know of atleast 5 other families who are in the same situation. Sweden policies have split families, and they are the losers eventually!
Another Distraught Parent!
Thanks for reporting relentlessly on this issue! As a parent who moved recently with teenage children, this law and its implications are always in our minds when considering the possibility of a stable life in Sweden, or otherwise!

I wish this situation was covered as extentively covered earlier as it it was covered within last year. we were among the first victims of this change. Rule came in July 2021, my son turned 18 in mid November and we were up for PR in mid January. I came to Sweden for work with my two sons and stayed because they felt like home here. Skilled people/hight tax payers are affected more because they cannot show any other cause. I wrote last time and writing again, I have spent tens if thousands on lawyer fee but of no use. we are still uncertain of what happens next. what could have been a great change for us while contributing to the society turner out to be a never ending nightmare.
Non EU Highly Skilled Worker In Sweden
I am one of them, and I have personally spoken to Niels from center party about this. Eventually, I gave up and sent my only child back home to continue his university studies simply because, after almost five years of living here, they had no realistic chance of staying in Sweden. I am among the top 0.05% of taxpayers in Sweden and have been contributing at this level for more than five years. Yet, despite everything my family and I have contributed to this country, I was not given a realistic opportunity to keep my own child close to me while they pursued their education. The damage this government’s policies have caused to working foreigners and their families in Sweden is beyond imagination. And behind every statistic are REAL people, families, and young people whose lives are being turned upside down. Intentional overseas studying is different from being forced making unintended decisions.

No one understands the trauma that people with families, including their kids, go through. People move here legally, they build a life here. Their kids start to adapt to society way better than the family adults, yet at the end they have to go through this. There is no harm for a country to say that they do not want immigrants or any skilled people. But do not lie just to have fake image in the world that it cares about highly skilled people. It is these lies that drove people to Sweden. No one was dying to move to Sweden. Now they have a built a life, and followed the law, this happens. If someone thinks that everyone in the world wants to move to a certain country, no matter how good it is, it is like living in a fools paradise. It is NEVER easy to leave your own country where you were born. And when finally people start accepting the new world as their home, they are bombarded with such news
