Swedes missing after Indian floods
Three Swedes visiting the flood hit region of Ladakh in northern India are reported to be missing by relatives with the Swedish foreign ministry unable to confirm their whereabouts, according to a report in the Dagens Nyheter (DN) daily.
Several reports of missing Swedes have emerged since monsoon rains hit the town of Leh in Ladakh, part of Indian-administered Kashmir, late last Thursday.
A Swedish couple reported missing over the weekend are reported to be safe and were in fact on a plane home when the foreign ministry released their details, the newspaper has reported.
But a further three Swedes have now been reported to be missing by relatives who have been unable to contact them.
"The details change all the time. We are now looking for another couple as well as a man who we have not had contact with since yesterday," Anders Jörle at the foreign ministry told the newspaper.
The foreign ministry has classified the area as a "catastrophe zone" with limited communications hampering attempts to contact missing Swedes.
According to media reports at least 130 people have reported to have lost their lives in the flash floods.
