Swedish teen sex ring trial underway
12:58 CET+01:00
The suspected mastermind of a Swedish teen sex ring hid under a blanket as he entered a Stockholm-area court room on Friday for the first day of his closed-door trial for pimping and a range of other related sex-crimes.

The 40-year-old businessman is one of four men charged in a shocking case featuring violent group sex with underage girls. Another man charged in the case is a Stockholm-area school teacher.

The ringleader is suspected of having used the internet to recruit nine young girls, some as young as 14-years-old, who were then paid to engage in a range of sex acts which took place in private homes and luxury hotels and featured handcuffs, whips, and other foreign objects.

Prosecutors are hoping to convict the 40-year-old for aggravated pimping offences and other sex crimes, which he denies having committed. He has admitted, however, to the crime of paying for sex.

A fifth man, a 60-year-old businessman, was arrested in Stockholm on Tuesday morning on suspicions of having raped a 16-year-old girl in connection with one of the sessions arranged by the 40-year-old.

Police are still looking for a six man suspected of having raped a 17-year-old girl who was also caught up in the underground teen sex ring, the Dagens Nyheter (DN) newspaper reports.

As more shocking details emerge about the details of the case, it appears likely that police will continue to seek more suspects in the growing teen-sex scandal.

The girls, most of who suffered from social problems, were lured with promises of designer bags, clothes, and money in exchange for sex.

The girls had no other connection other than that they were listed in the address book of the 40-year-old's mobile phone.

One of the victims was only 14-years-old when she became caught up in the sex ring. She told police she had sex with the 40-year-old and his friends on several occasions, often all at once.

“I was pretty drunk and high so I don't really remember. From what I can remember, there were eight or ten of them,” she told police, according to the Aftonbladet newspaper.

Men paid 800 kronor ($100) each for sex with the girls, and up to several thousand kronor for group sex.

The sessions also often turned violent.

“I said no, but he had sex with me anyway. It was at a hotel outside the city without any staff at the reception, so I knew that I couldn't get any help,” said one 17-year-old victim to police, according to Aftonbladet.

“When I tried to push him off me with my hands he began pulling my hair,” recounted another victim.

The 14-year-old told police she participated in ten to fifteen group sex sessions between 2005 and 2007.

She eventually became pregnant and had an abortion when she was sixteen and is convinced the 40-year-old ringleader was the father.

“At the time, I had only had sex with him,” she told police, according to the Expressen newspaper.

As a way at getting back at him, the girl confronted the man's wife about the affair.

In addition to the teacher and the 40-year-old, who is a high-ranking manager with a publicly listed company, others charged in the case include a prominent entertainment industry boss and an economic consultant.

But in testimony to police, the girls have also mentioned an attorney, an ambulance driver, and a bartender were also involved in the underground sex-ring, according to DN.
