SMHI: sub-zero north and tropical south
09:42 CEST+02:00
As the long school holidays come to a close Swedish weather agency SMHI has forecast that the country is set to be divided in two, with a wintry chill in the north and tropical climes in the south.

"In Götaland and southern Svealand it is really sunny at the moment and temperatures in some areas can reach up to at least 25 degrees (Celsius). But north of Stockholm it is cloudy, with rain showers, thunder and considerably cooler," said SMHI meteorologist Sandra Andersson.

The heat wave is set to be short-lived however.

The warmth in the south is due to a high pressure front over the continent paying a visit to our latitudes - but only temporarily.

"Already on Monday the warmer air will disappear and be replaced with cooler air from the north," Andersson said.

Temperatures are meanwhile expected to drop below freezing in some areas of the far north during Sunday night.

As the working week begins the weather will become more uniform across the country with average temperatures rising to around 15 degrees Celsius in the far north and 15-20 in southern areas.

Rain is forecast for the beginning of the week across the country with a risk of thunder in the slightly warmer south.

A cooler front will push in from the Atlantic later in the week bringing more variable weather conditions but only marginal changes in daytime temperatures.

New Malmö museum will focus on ‘democracy and migration'

Change starts with one small step, whether it be a large or small scale project, it all requires movement. It's a logic that can be applied to starting a new national museum from scratch, especially one with an innovative theme that is going to take several years to come to fruition.
