Are Swedes really all blondes and Vikings?

Ask anyone in the world to describe a typical Swede, and there's a safe bet you will soon be hearing about blonde, beautiful women, and perhaps Vikings with big beards and pointy helmets.

But is any of this really accurate?

Armed with a blond wig and a pointy helmet of our own, we took to the streets of central Stockholm to find out if these claims are mere clichés or actually hit closer to home than one might think.

Join us as we meet characters like bearded Bengt, who's convinced that Swedes should be known for their sense of humour, and mohawk-sporting Anton who blames it all on the Germans.

But is it the three German tourists who get the last laugh when we ask them about Swedish men?

In any case, check out the video below and be sure to let us know what other stereotypes we may have missed for next time.

More from the streets of Stockholm: asking Swedes about untranslatable words

Not anymore. Thanks to third-world immigration and interracial breeding. In 50 years the Nordic line will cease to exist. Good job!

I would say, as a tall and blond Swede with blue eyes, that the last Viking breeder is Norway. Not Denmark. Not Sweden.

well, I dont know about Stockholm but here in Göteborg I see a lot of blonde, beautiful women and handsome men.. especially man are really fit and slim. Personally I enjoy this environment of nice looking people and happy that I am not surrounded by Viking style man :)

Of course there are tall, viking, blonde, blue eyed ethnic Swedes in Sweden today but all ethnic Swedes doesn`t look like that. The blonde vikings are still being "breed" in Sweden today and will continue to do so in the future. But the german girls should know that the myths started with the Nazis. Some sick nazi romanticized dream on what a true "arian" should look like and a disgusting stereotype ethnic Swedes now have to be associated with. They should educate themselves and not be so stuck up and say stupid things like they look more swedish then ethnic Swedes.

Swedish men are the best looking and the most well groomed in the world.
02:30 March 7, 2013 by Norum
this is a rather disappearing thing as the years the socialist gov of Sweden invited too many people from outside of Europe who mixed with us.
03:41 March 7, 2013 by Phillynilly
AVP. Nowadays Swedish men are mostly emasculated, high maintenance,metro-sexual drama queens. However I prefer the 1070s male porn star moustachioed look that they were famous for. when men were hairy and women too.....

I think what is considered mix people in great degree has been started since early 80s, otherwise even the guest labor immigrants have been from Europe before 80s, mostly Finns.

To answer to the above question, you should refer to history, for example Eugenics in Sweden.

Eugenics (genetic composition of a population) existed in Sweden for more than 4 decades till 1976, longer than any country in the world. According to the "Eugenics and the welfare state in Sweden by Alberto Spektorowski and Elisabet Mizrachi":

"… although the ideological core of Swedish Social Democracy remained reformist and universalistic, there were strong tendencies towards a Fabian concept of industrial democracy and an exclusionist concept of social welfare. This was the basis for social eugenics: a welfare community for 'the fittest'…."

'The fittest', is what the present immigrants and refugees have to face everyday. It is what you find in the bases of social structure in Sweden! It is unimaginably hard to be different in such society, a different kind of person than Swede. An immigrant or refugees has to face not only the normal hardness of adaptation like any other country, but also the extra hardness of being exactly like a Swede to be considered 'The fittest'!

@AVP: Swedish men are the best looking and the most well groomed in the world.

And the most gay too. Add to that, the most shallow and boring too.
17:21 March 7, 2013 by beatrice16
I agree, swedes are the best looking men in the world.
05:10 March 8, 2013 by Phillynilly
Beatrice, I don't know about you, but the best looking and well groomed men I saw were the Italians. And the Dutch, though not so well groomed. If you like skinny albinos with about as much charm as an Ikea table, then Swedish men are for you...they are as boring as watching paint dry.....
15:48 March 8, 2013 by trepte
@phillynilly I was laughing with tears at your remarks about Swedish men, couldn't be more agree with that ! :)))))))
17:37 March 8, 2013 by beatrice16

That was my opinion. I have different standards of beauty in men , different from yours it seems..., and i think that swedish men are best looking. That doesn't means all of swedes are hot but most of them are :D .
19:21 March 8, 2013 by Khazara
Women considered homosexual males hot? Okay! Swedes are for the most part an inbred mutant albino group. This is the main reason white people in Sweden have a hard time having children. Since, many (not all of course) select mates that they hope will produce offspring with blonde hair and blue eyes (recessive traits). However, the opposite should be sought after (genetics).

Furthermore, Swedish women by far are lest attractive women on the planet and they are a reflection of their men. Most (90%) have shapes that resemble men. One should not be surprised that they seek partners that are non-white.

I dont think that everybody was blond, even during the age of the Vikings. Maybe there are even more blondes nowadays than it was back then, cause they could't dye their hair then.

And I´m so sick of seing those helmets with horns, they didnt exist back then, they are made up. Why would a viking, or anybody, wear something like that?
20:46 March 8, 2013 by rise

I agree. The viking helmets did not have those silly horns.

P.S. Many gayish people here speaking of gays. Wrong thread I believe.
09:20 March 9, 2013 by Phillynilly
Beatrice. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion. No disrespect on that. Even if we disagree. Although when you say Swedish men are "hot",I am trying to mathematically figure out how a climate that is regularly in minus temperatures ever produce a "hot" variant of its male species......

Although from a fellow male point of view , hotness covers a lot of attributes, not least of all charm, politeness, sense of humor and ability to communicate. And looks must also include masculinity, manliness and self control....

Most of the above are in short supply in Swedish men.....although we could always go shopping at Ikea.... or H & M......Doesn't that sound like fun?
16:42 March 9, 2013 by Migga

It`s clear that you are just trying to provoke and haver no idea what a Swede or albino looks like. How can you make such general claims about what Sweden men lacks? Have you met them all? Same goes for Beatrice saying that Swedish men are hot, she can hardly have met them all.

So all Swedes are homosexual? Inbred mutant albinos? Swedish women by far are lest attractive women on the planet? Most (90%) have shapes that resemble men? What a joke, you seem very narrow minded, homofobic and bitter.
02:42 March 10, 2013 by Khazara

I am having a good life. My opinion, you do not need to accept it.
11:44 March 10, 2013 by Migga
@ Khazara

I didn`t question your view of your life, I spoke up about what I think of your comment. I don`t need to accept or respect it, I respect the right you have to express it but not the opinion itself. I also have the right to make my opinion heard about what I think about your views and I think they are a joke.
10:17 March 12, 2013 by Phillynilly
It is painfully obvious upon introduction as to what Swedish men lack. Charm, sense of humor, masculinity among them. High maintenance dram queens would be a fair description.

I had a long term relationship with an American woman of Swedish descent that ended several years ago. She was blonde, blue eyed and built really well. She was fantastic in bed but otherwise was hard to get along with and was occasionally violent. Her father still spoke an old version of Swedish that his family carried here before the turn of the 20th Century and all of them still have a Swedish accent. Kinda cute. I wouldn't mind hooking up with another good looking, blonde Swede without all the drama.
