Shortly after noon on February 4th, a man entered the Campus Risbergska school for adult education in Örebro, a city in central Sweden.
He shot and killed 11 people, including himself.
But what do we know about the suspected gunman so far?
The answer a week later is still: not much.
Swedish media early on identified him as 35-year-old Rickard Andersson, which was confirmed by the prosecutor on February 10th.
According to several media reports, Andersson, who recently changed his name from Jonas Simon, had struggled with psychiatric problems through much of his upbringing, had failed to complete school, been unemployed and had lived a largely socially isolated life in recent years.
Police have said he does not appear to be connected to a gang or terror group, but were on February 10th still trying to confirm whether or not he had acted alone. They have also said they have so far found no sign of an ideological motive, but the investigation is still ongoing.
Most, if not all, of the victims had foreign backgrounds, and police are investigating whether or not Andersson had a racist or xenophobic motive. However, at the time of writing they haven't yet been able to establish one. He is not believed to have published any manifestos.
Andersson had a licence to own four different kinds of hunting rifles. Three rifles were found next to his body.
He fired one of his weapons at police when they arrived at the scene, then set off a smoke bomb that allowed him to disappear into the school. An hour later, police found him dead, having shot himself.
In interviews with the Aftonbladet tabloid, relatives described him as an enstöring, a "loner", who didn't have much contact with friends and family, although they said he would sometimes join Christmas celebrations with his parents and siblings or look after his parents' dog.
"He doesn't seem to like people," one relative told Aftonbladet.
According to official documents, Andersson had in the past been signed up to attend several mathematics courses at Risbergska. The last one, which he interrupted before completing his studies, was in 2021.
