Many tks for input, KL. Much needed in The Local’s comments boxes. Ministers should abstain or be forbidden from all investment activities while in office (ref also Maria Stenergard and Mats Persson a short time ago) and put existing holdings into trust when appointed to government. They never learn. Agreed that resignations normally come after bad election results, but in this case the polls are so awful I think that his position became untenable. At least he’s gone in time, unlike e.g. Biden.

Tony, for a Party leader which is in government and mid term and yes polling low, it is still very strange and unusual. Party leaders tend to wait till after a public vote, be it general or local before they resign. So Mats Knutsson has a point. To me it is more likely he jumped before being pushed and from what has surfaced today regarding Pehrson not registering companies he is involved with, even more so!

It’s strange that Mats Knutsson finds Pehrson’s departure as “sensational”. Good god, three key party members recently resigned within the space of 24 hours, including a government minister, and recent polls show almost non-existent public support for the party as a whole. Even out here in the sticks far from the Stockholm bubble it was deemed inevitable that Pehrson would have to go, while Knutsson finds it “sensational”. Really odd.
