There are just a couple of weeks left to go until Christmas and many have already started preparing for their julbord on December 24th. Food prices have fallen somewhat this autumn but even despite this, the overall price of food and alcoholic drinks has risen by around 33 percent in the past five years.
Butter has seen a 62 percent price hike since November 2020, chocolate has gone up by 71 percent and hard cheese has risen in price by 46 percent. Fresh salmon has also seen a 45 percent rise, according to new figures from Statistics Sweden, with eggs and herring also rising by 48 percent and 34 percent respectively.
Apples were the only item to see a single-figure rise, going up just 5 percent in five years.
On a month-by-month level, however, prices have fallen, with a 0.3 percent drop between October and November this year.
Fruit became cheaper in November ‒ which may be due to the fact that citrus season is upon us ‒ and bread and fish both dropped in price compared to the previous month.
