Swedish stock market expected to rise after Trump drops tariff threat
The Swedish stock market is expected to rise on Thursday after US President Donald Trump dropped his threat of imposing new tariffs on the country, and seven others, in his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
"It was a complete u-turn," said Robert Bergqvist, Chief Economist at SEB. "He took a few steps back, not least when it comes to using military means. But it is also important that he backed down from tariffs for the time being."
He warned that the world's economy would continue to face uncertainty due to Trump's unpredictability, but said the episode was yet more evidence that Trump is Influenced by the reactions of the equity markets.
"He modifies his messages and takes steps back. It is a foregone conclusion, which has been confirmed again, that he is influenced by market reactions."

Social Democrats report Strömmer to parliamentary committee over SD MP
The Social Democrats have called on the Swedish parliament's Committee on the Constitution to examine why Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer appointed and then kept the Sweden Democrat MP Katja Nyberg in place on a set of important oversight boards, despite her being accused of driving a car under the influence.
Nyberg was a member of oversight councils for the Säpo security service, the police and the police's special investigations' council.
"At least a week passed from the time the criminal suspicions became public until she was dismissed," the party wrote in its submission.
That Strömmer did not suspend Nyberg from the special unit that is overseeing the investigation of her own case was, "incomprehensible," the party's justice spokesperson, Teresa Carvalho, told the TT newswire.
