The man was arrested on February 18 in the Stockholm area, the Swedish Security Service (Sapo) said in a statement.
Sapo spokesman Johan Wikstrom told AFP that there were "links to violent right-wing extremism."
The only right-wing extremist group on the EU's list of terrorists and groups is the white supremacist group The Base.
Wikstrom would not say which group was involved, but he added that under Swedish anti-terrorism laws it was not required for a group be on the EU list in order for a person to be tried.
The man is suspected of "participating in a terrorist organisation" and the alleged crimes were believed to have occured from November until his arrest, according to court documents.
The court said prosecutors would need to press charges by March 20.
It also ordered that the man, who denies the crimes, should undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Dagens Nyheter newspaper reported that the man had been admitted against his will to a psychiatric facility for five days in January.
According to the newspaper, doctors had concluded that he was suffering from a "serious psychiatric disorder".
