Hi everyone ‒ wow, 85 comments! I think that might be a The Local record. Thank you so much for getting involved in our first live Q&A and I'm really sorry we couldn't answer all of your questions. We'll leave this article here so you can read our responses (if we didn't answer your comment we may have answered another with a similar question), and we will also pull some of them out into a Q&A article which will be up on the site either today or on Monday. Have a nice weekend!

It's unfair to people who work and pay taxes, then move to live with their Swedish family and work in Sweden. Thank you . for sharing your feedback.

I was granted a sambo visa last March and my partner and I married a few months later. I had planned to apply for citizenship after three years. Does the elimination of permanent residency effect the process by which sambo visa holders can apply for citizenship?

Hi, AS far as I know , some refugee settled in Sweden through UNHCR. Permanent residence given them before they arrived Sweden. If Sweden going to change Permanent residence permit, what is going to happen to those already settled in Sweden? It is very boring situation has raised here Sweden even if I agree with their concern.

Will government be able to revoke already granted citizenship after the law changes? If yes in which cases?
J
everything looks counter intuitive. The committee submitting their recommendations, followed by government recommending MV for strict security checks, indications of passing law and applying changes from June 2026, then MV suddenly coming up with disruptive changes to processing queues.. it's almost like agencies and government are acting like hand in glove.. While stricter checks and better regulation are welcome, there had to be some regard to the efficiency of agencies and morality involved. MV who had to process cases with in 6 months is now with a 40+ month backlog and the government successfully sat on a bill for one year suddenly wants to debate on it just before elections and bring it into action a month before polling.. it doesn't sound strange at all..
