Rail passengers travelling between the Danish and Swedish capitals will soon be able to book the X2000 high-speed service between Copenhagen and Stockholm.
The connection, which was cancelled in 2024 due to renovation works on the trains, will be ready to return in around six months’ time, Christer Litzell, the head of business operations with Swedish rail operator SJ, told Danish newspaper Politiken.
X2000 trains have continued to operate in other parts of Sweden while the service to Copenhagen has been on ice.
Litzell told Politiken that the connection to Denmark will resume this autumn because Copenhagen “is a hub for onward travel to Europe."
The X2000 train has been given new interiors with “attractive design and modern layout,” he said.
The journey between the two cities takes around 5 hours and 15 minutes with the direct, high-speed service.
Existing rail options for passengers travelling between the two Nordic capitals include the Snälltåg express train which also runs directly and takes just over six hours.
Other services require changes in either Lund, Malmö, Hässleholm or Gothenburg.
By switching in Malmö, passengers can take one of the existing X2000 services.
