Hear hear! Thanks for writing this, Mandy, what a great piece.

I’ve been waiting for someone in the news to point out this painfully needed perspective. Bought a subscription to The Local today just to comment and like it. I hope the Swedish-language news gets Mandy to do a guest piece on their platforms.

Coming from a country that does not have democratic system, I painfully realize that many, if not most, people in a self-claimed high-quality democracy, like Sweden, have such a shallow and even outright wrong understanding of democracy. Almost half of the electorates think it is totally fine to disrespect equal voting rights. Or it is because the people currently live in democracies have never fought for their own rights, thus take everything for granted? Not angry as such, only deeply disappointed.

Spot on Mandy. The fact that this needs pointing out is probably the most shocking aspect of the current situation. I find the whole debate utterly baffling.
