A general rise in alcohol consumption in Sweden is making its presence felt in criminal statistics, according to Dagens Nyheter. Last year up to 65,000 violent crimes were reported and the police expect this figure to rise this year.

A depressed farmer in Vårgårda set fire to his own farm last Saturday night after a row with his wife, according to Expressen. The 42 year old man then climbed into his tractor and ploughed down everything he could find - including the fire engine that had been called to put the fire out.

Three youths were attacked in a campsite in Västra Hamnen, Malmö, on Monday night, according to a report in Sydsvenska Dagbladet.

Gladiator in fight - shock

Last Saturday's tabloids splashed with the news that a star of TV4's 'Gladiators' was arrested after a fight outside a Stockholm bar. He was reportedly under the influence of drugs but the police weren't sure whether it was cocaine or ephedrine. "It's hard to tell the difference," a policeman told Expressen.
