Sweden's government wants to look into a ban on plastic cups and food containers, going a step further the EU directive on single-use plastics, the Minister for the Environment has said.
For decades, plastic straws have been essential props for cocktail makers, smoothie lovers and fast food addicts. But that may be starting to change, thanks largely to vigorous environmental campaigning.
In order to get to grips with increasing plastic waste, Sweden's environment minister said the country would review options including bans, taxes, fees and new container-deposit schemes.
